Serco are recruiting for a Port Ops Clyde 2nd Engineer to join their current team based in Faslane. The role of the 2nd Engineer is to support and assist the Serco Clyde Marine vessels which include Tugs, Work Boats Passenger Carriers, Pilot Boats and Barges. The role will also assist with any issues of any mechanical or electrical operations, that are prevalent, provide assistance with maintenance and defect rectification and provide any such support within the scope and realm of a 2nd Engineer.
The role provides support to the operations and technical team as required to maximise operational efficiency and availability of the Serco Clyde vessel suite. This is a shore side role not a Back-to-Back Mariner role.
Main Accountabilities:
- Support Planned Maintenance and both normal and emergency repair work when required.
- To support the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all propulsion, auxiliary and deck machinery, electrical appliances, air conditioning, domestic installations, fittings and structures within and out with the machinery spaces and such items as may be detailed by the Company within the scope of and level of experience commensurate with a 2nd Engineer.
- Consult with Operations and Technical as required to achieve a maximum output and support to operation and vessels.
- The incumbent must keep the Operations and Technical Manager appraised of any issues that may have a bearing on the operational output.
- Assist with and ensure compliance with all relevant Oil and Environmental Pollution Prevention Legislation and to ensure that all responsible Officers are familiar with Emergency Procedures, Contingency Plans and capable of operating all Safety and Pollution Prevention equipment and appliance.
- Become familiar with details of vessel’s construction, machinery and operating characteristics.
- Assist with the planning of routine maintenance and inspections, minimising vessel disruption and maximising vessel in service time.
- Support as required to vessels endeavouring to maximise efficiency of machinery and equipment.
- Support with and via external contractors, ensuring that any repair work being undertaken is carried out in a satisfactory manner.
- Escort contractors on site when required.
- Formulate and return any reports if and as required by the company.
- To carry-out any additional duties as may reasonably be requested by the company.
- Support barge operations (fuel, sewage and sullage) when required as the onboard engineer/barge operative.
- Support ‘out of Port’ as the 2nd engineer for tasking out with the port area.
- Remuneration to be recompensed for additional work iaw current scales.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- 2nd Eng minimum CoC not less than 3000Kw
- In date ENG1
- Any requisite STCW qualification to fulfil the primary role of the selected individual.
- Basic Level Management / Leadership training or demonstrable equivalence.
- Interpersonal skills adaptable to work with and deal with Management, Crews and Customer issues
- Knowledge of SMS and the ISM Code.
- IT awareness
- Health and Safety awareness
- Marine Industry Background.
- Understanding of a planned maintenance System (such as AMOS).
