Here at Serco, we’re looking for a Buyer specialising in the IT category to play a key role in shaping how Serco manages its supplier base and optimises spend across our global operations. This is a fantastic opportunity for a procurement professional with a strong interest in technology and digital services to grow their expertise in a complex, fast-paced environment.
As an IT Category Buyer, you will provide sourcing and procurement expertise to support the delivery of value across Serco’s IT spend. Working alongside Category Managers and stakeholders across the business, you will help run sourcing events, negotiate supplier contracts, and deliver key tactical procurement projects aligned with our wider IT strategy.
As part of this you’ll:
- Deliver tactical procurement projects (typically <£250k) in compliance with Serco’s sourcing processes.
- Support larger procurement initiatives (>£250k) led by Category Managers and Senior Buyers.
- Run end-to-end sourcing activities, including RFx development, evaluation, and supplier negotiations.
- Collaborate with IT and digital stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into sourcing solutions.
- Support supplier due diligence, risk mitigation, and ongoing supplier relationship management.
- Assist with drafting and finalising contracts, with support from Legal and Procurement colleagues.
- Maintain accurate records, ensure governance compliance, and track cost savings and other benefits.
- Promote the use of preferred suppliers and contribute to category strategy execution.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a buying or sourcing role – ideally in IT or technology categories.
- A solid understanding of sourcing principles and contract lifecycle management.
- Experience using eSourcing platforms and strong Microsoft Office skills (Power BI desirable).
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with a proactive, collaborative mindset.
- Highly organised and able to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- A passion for Procurement and a desire to grow within a global organisation.
- CIPS qualification (or working towards) is desirable.
