Band 3 / £70,000 - £85,000 (dependent on experience)

Here at Serco, we’re looking for an experienced Data Architect to help shape the future of our data platforms, analytics and reporting capabilities.

This is a unique opportunity to influence enterprise-wide data strategy across multiple business units, working with senior stakeholders to design modern, scalable data solutions that unlock business insight, improve decision-making and support digital transformation.

As part of our Enterprise Architecture Practice, you'll define the strategic direction for data architecture across Serco. Working closely with Enterprise Architects, business leaders, IT teams and external partners, you'll translate business challenges into robust, scalable data solutions.

This is a hands-on architecture role with a strong focus on delivering business outcomes through modern cloud data platforms, analytics and reporting solutions. You'll provide technical leadership across data engineering, analytics, governance and reporting while mentoring other architects and helping to mature our enterprise data capability.

As part of this you’ll:

  • Define and govern enterprise data architecture standards, principles and best practices.
  • Design target-state data platforms, analytics solutions and reporting architectures.
  • Lead architecture reviews and provide technical assurance across data initiatives.
  • Work with senior business stakeholders to understand strategic priorities and translate them into scalable data solutions.
  • Design modern data architectures across cloud platforms including Azure and AWS, with knowledge of integration technologies such as Boomi.
  • Shape data repositories, warehouses, semantic layers, reporting platforms, analytics capabilities, data catalogues and knowledge management solutions.
  • Evaluate architecture options, balancing cost, risk and business value, and making build-versus-buy recommendations.
  • Support the delivery of dashboards, reporting models and self-service analytics that enable better business decision-making.
  • Champion data governance, data quality, metadata management and secure handling of enterprise data.
  • Drive continuous improvement, platform optimisation and increased adoption of analytics capabilities.
  • Build strong partnerships across business functions, IT teams and third-party suppliers.
  • Mentor Data Architects, Engineers and Analysts while helping define capability and maturity roadmaps.
  • Contribute to enterprise data strategy, technology roadmaps and innovation initiatives.

What you’ll need to do the role:

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical architecture expertise with excellent stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Significant experience (typically 6–10+ years) designing enterprise-scale data and analytics solutions.
  • A strong background in data architecture or data engineering within complex organisations.
  • Experience delivering business intelligence, analytics and reporting solutions that demonstrate measurable business value.
  • Knowledge of enterprise cloud data platforms including Azure, AWS, GCP or Databricks.
  • Experience with technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Databricks, AWS Glue, Power BI and Excel.
  • Understanding of modern data integration patterns and technologies, including platforms such as Boomi.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality, metadata management, master data management and information security.
  • Experience designing scalable reporting and analytics environments that support business self-service.
  • The ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders and making architectural decisions across multiple business areas.
  • Experience with Tableau, Qlik, advanced analytics, data science or big data technologies would be advantageous.
  • Ability to achieve SC clearance.
