As a global organisation with more than 50,000 employees, Serco relies on resilient, secure, and high-performing IT services to keep the business running smoothly across the UK, Europe, and internationally.

We’re looking for a hands-on Senior Network Engineer who is proactive, practical, and thrives on solving problems. This is not a role for someone who sits back and waits for direction - we need someone with strong technical depth, common sense, and the confidence to get stuck in, take ownership, and drive solutions through to completion.

You’ll play a key role in shaping and evolving Serco’s enterprise network services, working across multi-cloud environments, core connectivity, security, and operational delivery. Acting as a technical lead within the Network Service, you’ll work closely with internal teams, strategic partners, and operational stakeholders to ensure our network infrastructure remains secure, scalable, performant, and fit for purpose.

As part of this you’ll:

  • Lead the technical design, engineering configuration, and strategic evolution of Serco’s enterprise network services.
  • Design and support secure multi-cloud networking solutions across AWS and Azure environments.
  • Work closely with Product Owners, Solution Architects, operational teams, and third-party suppliers to deliver robust network solutions.
  • Produce and maintain high-quality architecture documentation including HLDs, LLDs, and network diagrams.
  • Drive continual improvement across network performance, resilience, security, and service adoption.
  • Support operational teams in troubleshooting complex network issues and identifying long-term solutions.
  • Develop short and long-term technology roadmaps to ensure services remain current, scalable, and aligned to business needs.
  • Support new service introductions through technical analysis, deployment planning, cost modelling, and implementation coordination.
  • Ensure network services align with security best practice, including zero-trust principles and secure government/regulated environments.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders, suppliers, and business teams across a large matrix organisation.

What you’ll need to do the role:

We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with a practical, delivery-focused mindset. You’ll be comfortable rolling your sleeves up, making decisions, and working through problems in complex enterprise environments.

  • Strong hands-on experience across enterprise networking technologies including AWS networking, Azure networking, Cisco Meraki technologies, network security technologies and enterprise networking technologies.
  • Experience working within regulated or government secure environments is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of carrier WAN technologies including MPLS, leased lines, and managed connectivity services.
  • Experience working within architectural frameworks such as TOGAF.
  • Strong experience producing HLDs, LLDs, technical architecture documentation, and network diagrams.
  • Experience managing and working collaboratively with suppliers, partners, and third-party operational teams.
  • Strong troubleshooting, operational support, and problem-solving capability within complex enterprise environments.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a senior network engineering or network design role.
  • Relevant certifications are desirable, including CCNP Enterprise, AWS Advanced Networking – Specialty, Azure Network Engineer Associate, and Palo Alto PCNSE/Prisma certifications.
  • Some environments operate 24/7, so occasional out-of-hours support or escalation cover may be needed.
