Data Transformation Analyst

Contract: AASC (Asylum Accommodation and Support Contract)
Fully Remote (with occasional travel)
Full Time, 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract

Band 5 / £37,000 - £44,000 (dependent on experience)

Here at Serco, we're building a more data-driven operation, and we're looking for a Data Transformation Analyst to help us get there.

This is not a traditional analyst role focused solely on reporting and dashboards. We're looking for someone who can use data skills to identify problems, uncover opportunities, influence stakeholders, and drive meaningful change across the business.

You'll work across operations, technology, product teams, and data, helping us improve the quality, structure, and value of our data. You'll investigate issues end-to-end, engage directly with stakeholders, and turn complex findings into compelling stories that inspire action.

If you're naturally curious, proactive, and enjoy getting to the root cause of problems, this is an opportunity to make a genuine impact on the future direction of a large-scale operational contract.

As part of this you’ll:

  • Investigate and analyse large, complex datasets to identify data quality issues, risks, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Work closely with operational teams and stakeholders to understand processes, user behaviours, and root causes of data-related challenges.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the Data Quality Stewardship Log, ensuring visibility and ownership of identified issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Engage with Business Analysts, Product Teams, Developers, and operational stakeholders to help define, prioritise, and deliver system and process improvements.
  • Build and enhance data quality monitoring and reporting solutions that provide meaningful visibility of data health across the operation.
  • Translate technical findings into clear, actionable recommendations and compelling data stories that support business decision-making.
  • Create reporting, presentations, and guidance materials that raise awareness of data quality issues and improvement initiatives.
  • Support the ongoing development of data governance, stewardship, and transformation capabilities across the contract.
  • Drive initiatives through to completion, tracking progress and ensuring improvements deliver measurable business value.

What you’ll need to do the role:

  • Experience working with large volumes of data and performing detailed analysis to identify issues, trends, and improvement opportunities.
  • Strong SQL skills, including querying, joins, data exploration, and working safely within production environments.
  • Solid understanding of data modelling principles, including Star and Snowflake schema design.
  • Experience using Power BI to develop reports, analyse data models, and support business insight generation.
  • Strong working knowledge of Power Query (M), including data transformation, cleansing, reshaping, merging, and automation techniques.
  • Ability to investigate data issues end-to-end, understanding how data flows across systems, processes, and reporting layers.
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders to gather requirements, challenge assumptions, and drive positive change.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to turn data into meaningful stories and recommendations that influence decision-making.
  • Experience working with API or JSON data, Data Quality frameworks, DAX, Excel automation, or DAMA principles would be advantageous.

Personal Attributes

  • Naturally curious, inquisitive, and driven to understand the root cause of problems rather than treating symptoms.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, able to identify opportunities and take ownership of improvements with minimal supervision.
  • Strong relationship builder who can quickly establish credibility and trust with stakeholders across all levels of the business.
  • Comfortable balancing technical analysis with stakeholder engagement and business-facing activities.
  • Confident challenging existing ways of working and influencing positive change through data-driven insight.
  • Organised and resilient, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work through ambiguity.
  • Passionate about continuous improvement and finding better ways to solve problems.
  • Collaborative, approachable, and people-focused, recognising that successful transformation is as much about people and processes as it is about data.
