Are you an experienced programme or transition professional who thrives on turning complex plans into successful delivery?
At Serco, we're looking for a Transition Manager to join our UK & Europe Transition Management Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work across some of our most strategic bids, mobilisations, transformations and operational programmes, helping shape solutions from the earliest stages of a bid through to successful delivery.
You'll work alongside Transition Directors, Principal Transition Leads and senior stakeholders across our business, bringing structure, governance and confidence to large-scale programmes that make a real difference to the services we deliver.
What you'll be doing
As a Transition Manager, you'll play a key role across both the sales and delivery lifecycle.
During the sales phase, you'll help develop robust mobilisation and transition plans that demonstrate our ability to deliver for customers. You'll define project scope, identify risks and dependencies, build programme artefacts and provide assurance that our plans are achievable and commercially robust.
During programme delivery, you'll take ownership of projects or workstreams within major transition programmes, ensuring effective governance, reporting and control throughout implementation. You'll work collaboratively across Serco and with partner organisations to monitor progress, manage risk, support operational readiness and maintain delivery excellence.
You'll also contribute to the ongoing development of our Transition Management capability, helping improve standards, methodologies, knowledge sharing and best practice across the function.
As our Transition Manager, you'll:
- Lead the planning, definition and control of projects and workstreams within complex programmes.
- Develop high-quality mobilisation, transition and implementation plans.
- Establish and maintain programme governance, reporting and RAID management.
- Deliver projects and workstreams through the transition lifecycle, ensuring milestones, quality and outcomes are achieved.
- Support bid teams by reviewing and strengthening mobilisation and transition responses.
- Conduct programme assurance and deliverability reviews, identifying improvements that increase delivery confidence.
- Collaborate with operational teams, subject matter experts, suppliers and senior stakeholders across Serco.
- Support operational readiness, cutover planning and successful service implementation.
- Drive continuous improvement across transition methodologies, standards and tools.
What you'll bring
We're looking for someone who combines strong programme management capability with excellent stakeholder engagement and the ability to bring clarity to complex environments.
You'll have:
- Experience delivering projects or workstreams within large, complex programmes.
- Experience across programme lifecycles, including bids, transitions, mobilisations, transformations or service delivery.
- Strong programme planning, scheduling and governance expertise.
- Experience managing RAID logs, reporting and programme controls.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage senior stakeholders.
- Experience operating in fast-paced environments with multiple competing priorities.
- The ability to analyse complex information, solve problems and drive delivery through ambiguity.
- A continuous improvement mindset and a passion for raising delivery standards.
Technical knowledge and qualifications
You'll ideally have:
- A degree (or equivalent experience).
- Practitioner-level qualification in PRINCE2, MSP or APM.
- Knowledge of programme governance, PMO and assurance frameworks.
- Experience using Microsoft Project (Project Online), Microsoft Office, Smartsheet, SharePoint and Power BI (or the ability to quickly develop capability).
