Join Serco’s Finance Transformation and help build the engine of growth
Serco is transforming Finance to support its future growth, creating a UK-led Global Finance Services (GFS) Hub at the heart of the organisation. This hub is designed to be a true engine of growth - delivering accurate, timely and well-controlled financial information while driving standardisation, efficiency and continuous improvement across the business.
This is an exciting opportunity to join that transformation in a key leadership role, owning the end-to-end Record-to-Report (R2R) process for the UK Division and helping shape how Finance operates across a complex, contract-led organisation.
The role
As Finance Manager, you’ll be responsible for delivering accurate, timely and controlled financial results across Serco’s UK business, which spans c.80 contracts across five business units and generates annual revenues of approximately £2.4bn.
Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, you’ll lead a mixed onshore and offshore team of Financial Accountants, overseeing month-end close, balance sheet integrity, and high-quality financial reporting. You’ll play a critical role in supporting accurate A2R delivery and while continuously improving Finance processes and ways of working within the GFS Hub.
As part of the expansion of Serco’s Global Finance Services (GFS) Hub, we are hiring multiple Finance Managers to lead key areas within the end-to-end Record-to-Report (R2R) process. These roles will span the following specialist areas:
- Procured Services
- Employee Costs
- Intercompany & Recharges
- Revenue & Billing
Each role will own delivery of accurate, timely and well-controlled financial accounting within its specialist area, while working to common standards and ways of working across the Finance Hub. While the technical focus may differ, all roles share the same core purpose: leading teams, strengthening controls, driving continuous improvement and supporting high-quality financial insight across Serco’s UK business.
As part of this you’ll:
- Lead, coach and develop a team of onshore Financial Accountants and offshore BPO resources
- Own and deliver an effective, efficient month-end close across assigned cost and revenue streams
- Review and approve material accounting adjustments, ensuring accuracy and control
- Support Senior Finance Managers in understanding the results and the subsequent reporting
- Own aged balance sheet items (WIP, debt, accruals, prepayments) and drive resolution with stakeholders
- Review balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring compliance with the Serco accounting manual
- Build strong relationships with operational teams to improve financial processes and efficiency
- Drive a continuous improvement mindset, embedding better, smarter ways of working
- Partner with other Finance Managers to ensure standardisation, documentation, compliance and control
What you’ll need to do the role:
You’ll be someone who:
- Is a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, ACMA or equivalent)
- Has strong experience delivering monthly financial reporting in a complex environment
- Is control- and process-oriented, with a clear view of best practice
- Enjoys leading and developing teams, both onshore and offshore
- Builds strong relationships with Finance and non-Finance stakeholders
- Has a natural continuous improvement mindset and appetite for change
- Is comfortable dealing with ambiguity, incomplete data and complex stakeholder demands
Essential experience & skills:
- Qualified accountant with strong technical accounting knowledge
- Experience leading teams and managing performance
- Strong understanding of R2R processes and balance sheet control
- Commercially minded, with the ability to translate numbers into insight
- Proven ability to improve processes and drive efficiencies
- High levels of integrity, diligence and professional credibility
Why Serco:
You’ll be part of a high-profile Finance transformation, playing a hands-on role in shaping Finance processes, systems and culture across a truly global organisation. Working in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment, you’ll gain standout experience delivering meaningful change while building strong foundations for long-term career opportunities across Serco.
