Overview

Serco is growing its IT Controls Testing team and we're looking for someone to join us on a six-month secondment to help deliver a structured programme of controls testing across our finance-related applications.

This isn't a role that needs a specialist background — it's a role that needs the right mindset. If you're methodical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently, we'd like to hear from you.

As part of this you’ll be:

  • Planning and scheduling testing activity across an agreed set of applications
  • Working with system owners and support teams to coordinate access and gather evidence
  • Executing tests against our Risk and Controls Matrix and documenting your findings clearly
  • Identifying and recording any control gaps, along with agreed actions and owners
  • Reviewing third-party SOC1 Type 2 reports and flagging where controls don't meet our standards
  • Providing progress updates and completing your assigned testing within the secondment term
  • Day-to-day collaboration with colleagues across Group Finance, digital, and support teams

What you’ll need to do the role:

We're building a blended team with a mix of skills and backgrounds — so we're deliberately keeping this open. You might come from a finance, IT, project management, or testing background. What matters most is that you bring:

  • A sharp eye for detail and the ability to spot errors or inconsistencies in evidence
  • The ability to think analytically and work through complex processes methodically
  • Strong written skills — clear, accurate, and thorough in your documentation
  • Confidence working autonomously and managing your own workload
  • Good communication skills, comfortable with both technical and non-technical colleagues

Desirable, but not essential

  • Experience of IT controls testing in a finance-related environment
  • Proven experience working in an IT audit, assurance, or controls-testing role
  • Relevant professional certification

Experience of IT controls testing or audit would be a bonus, but it's not essential. If you understand how finance or IT systems work and you have the aptitude for careful, structured work — we want to talk to you.
