Join Serco’s Finance Transformation and help build the engine of growth

Serco is transforming Finance to support its future growth, creating a UK-led Global Finance Services (GFS) Hub at the heart of the organisation. This hub is designed to be a true engine of growth - delivering accurate, timely and well-controlled financial information while driving standardisation, efficiency and continuous improvement across the business.

As part of this transformation, we are strengthening our technical accounting capability and are recruiting two Technical Accounting Managers to play a critical role in shaping how complex accounting is applied consistently across Serco’s UK business.

The role

As a Technical Accounting Manager, you will deliver an end-to-end Record-to-Report (R2R) process within the GFS Hub, with a strong focus on technical accounting standards and policy application. You will be a subject-matter expert within your area, ensuring the accurate, timely and compliant recording of financial results across the UK Division.

We are hiring across the following specialist areas:

  • Fixed Assets & Leases (IFRS 16)
  • Revenue Recognition (IFRS 15)

While each role has a distinct technical focus, both sit at the heart of the Finance Hub and work closely with Senior Finance Managers, Finance Business Partners and operational stakeholders to ensure accounting treatments are robust, well-understood and consistently applied across a complex, contract-led organisation.

You will lead a mixed onshore and offshore team of Financial Accountants, combining strong people leadership with deep technical expertise and a continuous improvement mindset.

As part of this you’ll:

  • Act as the go-to technical expert for complex accounting queries within your specialist area
  • Lead, coach and develop a team of onshore Financial Accountants and offshore BPO resources
  • Drive an efficient, well-controlled month-end close, reviewing and approving material accounting judgements and adjustments
  • Ensure strict adherence to IFRS standards, Serco accounting policies and control frameworks
  • Own the review of aged balance sheet items (e.g. WIP, debt, accruals, prepayments) and drive resolution with stakeholders
  • Review key balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy, compliance and continuous improvement
  • Support Senior Finance Managers in understanding the results and the subsequent reporting
  • Build strong relationships with operational teams to improve accounting processes and data quality
  • Embed a continuous improvement culture, standardising processes, documentation and ways of working across the Hub

What you’ll need to do the role:

You’ll be someone who:

  • Is a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, ACMA or equivalent)
  • Has deep expertise in IFRS 15 or IFRS 16 and related accounting policies
  • Enjoys being the technical authority while still getting hands-on with delivery
  • Is process- and control-oriented, with a strong view of best practice
  • Leads and develops teams with a people-first approach
  • Builds trusted relationships with Finance and non-Finance stakeholders
  • Thrives in a changing environment and is motivated by improving how things are done

Essential experience & skills:

  • Qualified accountant with strong technical accounting knowledge
  • Experience delivering accurate, controlled financial reporting on a regular cycle
  • Strong understanding of R2R processes and balance sheet integrity
  • Ability to apply judgement in complex or ambiguous scenarios
  • Proven experience leading teams, including offshore resources
  • High levels of integrity, diligence and professional credibility
