We are hiring for a Full-stack Software Engineer in an international organisation in Italy.

Nature of the task - Roles and responsibilities:

Service provision will take place within a large international organisation, such as the European Commission. The working environment is multicultural and multilingual, with an emphasis on strong work ethics, diligence, and responsibility. A shared commitment to common goals and operational effectiveness is essential, as is a high degree of discretion when handling personal or confidential data. The selected service providers will be required to sign the Ethics reminder and to conduct themselves accordingly during the provision of services under awarded specific contract.
The service provider is expected to take on software development, data management, data analysis and related technical activities, including work involving international trade and customs data as required by the appropriate project and service managers.

• Design, plan, and implement secure integration strategies and patterns across distributed information systems.
• Apply distributed architecture principles and integration best practices to address complex interoperability and system integration challenges.
• Design and develop scalable full-stack web applications, covering responsive user interfaces, server-side applications, business logic, APIs, and database interactions.
• Design intuitive and responsive user interfaces and user interactions, ensuring consistent performance and functionality across browsers and devices.
• Develop clean, maintainable, reusable, and well-structured code across front-end and back-end components.
• Implement core business logic and deliver solutions that meet functional and non-functional requirements and user expectations.
• Design, develop, and integrate secure and scalable APIs to support communication between system components and external services.
• Apply data and security best practices, including input validation, authentication and authorization, secure data storage, compliant logging, monitoring, and secure application design.
• Design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance database structures, including schemas, tables, views, indexes, and relationships, based on approved data models.

Additional tasks and responsibilities

• Develop and optimize SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis, with a focus on performance and efficiency.
• Implement database structures through optimized DDL scripts across different database management systems (DBMS).
• Monitor and troubleshoot database and application performance, optimizing queries and indexing strategies and identifying areas for improvement.
• Analyse data, processes, and source code to troubleshoot issues, identify improvement opportunities, and support system optimization.
• Perform unit and integration testing, debug applications, resolve defects, and validate code changes.
• Deploy and manage applications on cloud platforms using CI/CD pipelines and containerization technologies.
• Contribute to the design and development of scalable software architectures and solutions.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business and data requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
• Produce and maintain comprehensive technical documentation covering software, architecture, APIs, databases, and implementation processes.
• Design cartographic products and geographical data visualizations using appropriate symbology, scale rules, and accessibility principles for diverse audiences.

Specific Expertise:

• Proficiency in back-end development and web services, using Java, Node.js, and PHP, with experience in designing, developing, securing, and integrating RESTful APIs.
• Knowledge of statistical analysis methods and tools, with proven experience applying them to support evidence-based analysis and decision-making.
• Proven experience with data visualization and reporting, including the development of interactive dashboards and reports, with familiarity with Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet and data analysis tools.
• Experience with software development and collaboration tools, including Git and similar version control systems, JIRA, Microsoft Project, Confluence, and SharePoint.
• Knowledge of cloud computing services, with experience deploying, configuring, and managing applications in cloud environments, as well as knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies.
• Understanding of authentication and authorization protocols and security standards, with experience applying security principles to web applications and services.
• Experience of GIS methodologies, tools, technologies, and geographical data management

Candidate Profile

• Minimum 22 years of IT professional experience after secondary education
• Ability to understand, speak and write English (B2)
• At least 15 years of proven experience in front-end development using JavaScript, HTML, CSS, modern frameworks and libraries, and contemporary build tools, together with a strong knowledge of web accessibility standards, universal and inclusive design principles, and accessibility best practices.
• At least 15 years of proven experience with relational and non-relational databases, including database design, database migration, schema management, query optimization, performance tuning, and SQL, with specific knowledge of procedural SQL extensions such as PL/SQL for Oracle.
• At least 15 years of proven experience in data management and analysis, including data extraction, transformation, manipulation, and analysis across structured and unstructured datasets using one or more of the following: SQL, PHP, Python, Matlab, and R.
• At least 15 years of proven experience working with large-scale datasets and databases, including data quality practices such as validation, reconciliation, and data lineage.
• At least 10 years of proven experience working with international trade data, with a particular focus on data management, data processing, and data analysis in this domain
• Remuneration:
  • Permanent Contract range: 60,000- 68,000EUR/gross per year
