Job Introduction
We are looking for an Infrastructure System Engineer to join our team on a 3-month contract, with the possibility of extension. Freelance candidates are preferred.
The successful candidate will support the management of the JRC corporate infrastructure, including virtual server provisioning, storage, and campus network operations. The role also includes coordinating the work of team members assigned to the same service contract at the Karlsruhe site and acting as the primary interface with the JRC IT Service Manager.
Main Responsibilities
- Administration of the JRC corporate virtual server infrastructure.
- Administration of the NetApp storage infrastructure.
- Administration of the campus network infrastructure.
- Administration of Windows-based server platforms.
- Administration of other server platforms.
Knowledge and Skills
The following experience is required:
- Very good experience administering server virtualisation platforms, particularly VMware vSphere Enterprise.
- Very good knowledge of switching technologies, particularly Cisco, including Layer 2 network design.
- Very good knowledge of routing technologies, including dynamic routing protocols and Layer 3 network design.
- Experience configuring CIFS and NFS storage protocols and administering NetApp NAS storage infrastructure.
- Experience administering Windows Server operating systems (Windows Server 2012 or later).
The following experience would be considered an asset:
- CCNA certification, or an equivalent networking certification demonstrating knowledge of switching technologies.
- Experience administering complex IT environments.
- Experience supporting users of scientific information systems.
- Experience administering Linux server environments, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, and similar distributions.
- Knowledge of the ITIL service management framework.
- Experience producing technical documentation and user or administrator training manuals.
