Make an impact at Serco

As a Master < 24 MED 2 NC, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe operation and maintenance of vessels at HMAS Coonawarra. Reporting to the Site Marine Manager, you will provide professional seamanship and marine engineering expertise, operating and maintaining vessel machinery and equipment. Your focus will be on safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.

 

As a Master < 24 MED 2 NC, you’ll make a positive impact by:

  • Performing marine operations, berthing, anchoring, and seamanship
  • Managing and participating in shipboard drills and exercises
  • Conducting maintenance and marine engineering operations within your certificate qualifications
  • Ensuring vessel and crew compliance with safety standards and regulations
  • Supporting vessel maintenance, including working in machinery spaces
  • Participating in the training and induction of new personnel in inshore vessel operations
  • Collaborating with the Naval team to support operational outcomes

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

  • AMSA Certificate of Competency as a Master <24m near coastal
  • Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 near coastal qualification
  • Experience as a Master/Engineer on vessels of a similar size
  • Knowledge of marine operations, including crane and fuelling services
  • Current First Aid Certificate and a valid driver’s licence
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage time effectively
  • Understanding of Navy operating practices (desirable)
  • Eligibility to obtain Defence Baseline Security Clearance

 

You will also hold or be able to obtain:

  • Statement of Attainment in Safe Cargo Operations on Oil and Chemical Tankers
  • Statement of Attainment in Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention
  • High Risk Licences for Dogging, Crane, and Working in a Confined Space
  • Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC)
