As a Nurse Practitioner at Clarence Correctional Centre, you’ll deliver advanced clinical care, provide expert leadership, and influence health outcomes in one of the most complex and rewarding healthcare environments. Enjoy a collaborative roster alongside a second Nurse Practitioner, working 8 shifts a fortnight between 9:00am–7:00pm.  This is a unique opportunity to apply your expertise at an extended and autonomous level, supporting the safe, respectful, and rehabilitative care of our inmate population.

About the Role

As a Nurse Practitioner, you will provide advanced assessment and intervention strategies in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. You’ll be responsible for:

  • Leading complex clinical care planning and implementation
  • Diagnosing and treating a range of conditions within your scope
  • Writing prescriptions and ordering diagnostic tests where clinically appropriate
  • Supporting rehabilitation through health education and harm minimisation
  • Ensuring compliance with AHPRA standards and relevant legislation
  • Acting as a clinical leader and mentor within the nursing team
  • Contributing to quality improvement and patient-centred care outcomes
  • Supporting emergency responses, pharmacotherapy programs, and patient safety protocols
  • You will report to the Health Services Manager and be a critical part of the broaer clinical leadership team.

 

About Clarence Correctional Centre

Opened in mid-2020, this 1,700-bed state-of-the-art facility is the largest correctional centre in Australia. Located on the NSW North Coast – approx. 6 hours from Sydney and 3.5 hours from Brisbane – the area offers a relaxed coastal lifestyle, surrounded by lush rainforests, sand dunes, and welcoming communities.

 

The Centre services a large region from the Queensland border to Kempsey and Tamworth and is operated with a focus on:

  • Rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates
  • Safety and security for the community
  • Providing a decent and respectful environment for staff, inmates, and visitors

 

Who You Are

You are an endorsed Nurse Practitioner registered with AHPRA and have:

  • A Master of Nursing Practice
  • Endorsement by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) for advanced and extended practice
  • At least 3 years’ experience in an advanced nursing role
  • Strong clinical judgment, decision-making and communication skills
  • The ability to confidently lead, educate, and support peers and patients
  • Previous experience in acute, emergency, remote, or correctional health is advantageous
