About the role

As a Nurse Unit Manager at Clarence Correctional Centre, you will lead a dynamic team in the delivery of high-quality primary health care to approximately 1,700 inmates from diverse backgrounds.

You will oversee the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of health services, while managing staff performance and fostering a positive, inclusive workplace culture. Your leadership will ensure clinical governance, safe care delivery, and integration of health services in partnership with correctional colleagues.

This role reports to the Health Services Manager and has responsibility for a multidisciplinary team, including Clinical Team Leaders, Registered and Enrolled Nurses, administration staff, and visiting allied health professionals.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide effective leadership, direction, and support to health staff.

  • Ensure safe, evidence-based nursing practice and compliance with policies and standards.

  • Manage resources, staffing levels, and budgets effectively.

  • Oversee incident and complaint management, reporting, and quality audits.

  • Contribute to clinical governance and the Centre’s accreditation process.

  • Lead performance management, staff development, and induction of new staff and students.

  • Build an inclusive culture that values diversity and fosters engagement.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.

  • A Bachelor of Nursing and postgraduate qualifications in management, leadership, or a clinical specialty (or working towards).

  • Previous experience as a Nurse Unit Manager or in a senior healthcare leadership role.

  • Strong people leadership and change management skills within a multidisciplinary environment.

  • Proven ability to develop and implement policies and drive continuous improvement.

  • High-level communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

Compliance requirements

  • National Police Check.

  • State approval and authorisation by Corrective Services NSW.
