Function Description
As Business Development Director, you will be integrating The Serco Europe Defence Team and will report to the Director Defence. You will work mostly independently and be closely supported the defence Bid Team.
Business Development Director’s key responsibilities:
- Develop a deep understanding of the needs of the defence sector across a range of areas to ensure that Serco can develop winning propositions
- Contribute as a member of the senior management team in the formation of the business’ strategies and plans.
- Ensure the implementation of the business development strategy to deliver the growth aspirations
- Establish and grow a network of senior relationships with customers and potential partners
- Identify opportunities for the next 5 years and grow a pipeline
- Develop “upstream” opportunities and shape opportunities
- Lead the response to Tenders
- Deliver profitable contract wins
- Identify potential partnerships and develop them to lead to concrete business
- Identify potential acquisition targets
- Report regularly on the progress according to the Group’s standards
Profile
The successful candidate for this role is an entrepreneurial leader, someone who enjoys developing new customer relationships and equally loves working with their colleagues. We are looking for an ambitious and energic leader with a high focus delivering the goals, if possible, with a Military background, whether from Defence directly or from Service or equipment provider within the Defence Sector.
Higher Officer, Business school Master Degree, MBA or Engineering Degree, with experience of 10+ years in Business Development.
- Excellent relationship building and stakeholder management skills, at very senior levels within government, OEMs or partner/subcontractors
- Strong analytical skills with ability to assimilate information quickly and communicate key messages simply and effectively
- Sound strategic thinker with the ability to operate with a hands-on, pragmatic approach when required
- Commercial & entrepreneurial skills
- Results driven
- Excellent knowledge of government public market processes
- Excellent knowledge of how to use company governance processes
- Deep knowledge for military matters and stakes in Europe
- Experience in the Services business will be beneficial
- Bilingual NL / EN
