For our activities in ESA-ESTEC, we are currently looking for a Payload Integration Manager Engineer to be working onsite in Noordwijk, the Netherlands.

Candidates must be eligible for a security personal clearance from an EU Member State national security administration.

Responsibilites

  • Generate, bookkeep and support in the negotiation of the (International Partner) agreements (e.g. ESA Payload Integration Agreement (PIA), ESA-NASA PIA, ESA-ROSCOSMOS Experiment Specific Agreements (ExSpA)
  • Support the review of Experiment Science Requirements (ESR) and Experiment Requirements Document (ERD),
  • Support the relevant payload development reviews (e.g. Critical Design Review (CDR), Final Acceptance Review (FAR))
  • Support integration activities of payloads into IP elements, interface with the NASA PIM
  • Monitor the safety process for upload, download and disposal and, if applicable, monitor the provision of the reflight assessment,
  • Participate in Planning, Analysis and Integration (PAI) meetings, and other ESA meetings such as Increment Coordination Meetings (ICMs), Mission Management Telecons (MMTs) and Joint Mission Management Team (JMMTs) meetings, as needed;
  • Responsible for closing Certification of Flight Readiness (CoFR) codes for each allocated payload, as per the schedule provided in the Increment CoFR letter and plan;

Additional Tasks

  • Support launcher integration activities, submit Electronic Launch, Return and Onorbit Data Sets (eLRODS) to NASA; Submit a Ground Safety Checklist for launch or return, as required;
  • Support Cold Stowage integration activities;
  • Ensure the payload requirements for cargo transportation (both prior to and after on-orbit operations) are met and support negotiations of cargo integration issues with the Logistics Service, ensure the hardware is delivered on time for the cargo reviews by the hardware providers, ensure hardware is returned post-flight according to requirements;
  • Responsible for generating a monthly Payload Status Report and Integrated Payload Schedule for each allocated payload, ensuring the progress to plan stays under control, clearly identifying milestones that may lead to re-planning of an experiment and the associated resources

What You Offer

  • A Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering or science (biology, medicine, physics, chemistry) discipline
  • Demonstrated widespread experience in aerospace or human spaceflight activities management, including development, integration and on-orbit operations activities of complex payloads.
  • A proven experience in interfacing with partners in an international environment is an asset.
  • A strong attitude toward relationship management as well as good communication skills.
  • The post requires a result-oriented approach to work in a highly complex project environment.
  • A strong capacity for planning, organizing and prioritizing tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver focused concise management reports or presentations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Fluency in English is required, knowledge of another ESA member state language and/or Russian is an asset,
  • Experience with Biological Experiments or ISS Biolab facility is a strong asset
  • Project Management certification is an asset;
