Introduction

For more than half a century, Serco has walked alongside the pioneers of space. Serco has supported over 50 ESA missions where our teams have helped launch satellites, guide spacecraft across the void and turn data into discoveries that reshape our world.
With thousands of specialists contributing across the entire space lifecycle, from engineering support and satellite testing to launch services, LEOP, operations and surveillance, we have become a trusted force in national and European space strategies. And now, the next chapter could include you.
On behalf of the European Space Agency, we are looking for a Senior Project Control Support professional to join our team at ESA-ESTEC in Noordwijk. This position is embedded in a complex operational context where reliability, consistency, and sound judgement are essential to ensure the continuity of project control activities across multiple programmes.

The Community You Will Step Into

You will work in an international and structured ESA environment, interacting daily with Project Controllers, Technical Officers, Finance and Controlling functions. Activities are characterised by evolving priorities, parallel requests, and strict procedural frameworks. Within this context, your role will contribute to maintaining order, traceability, and operational stability across projects, ensuring that information flows, financial data and procurement actions remain aligned with project expectations and organisational rules.

The Difference You Will Make

As Senior Project Control Support, you will contribute directly to the robustness and effectiveness of project control operations. Your role is not limited to execution but extends to reinforcing continuity, supporting the consolidation of operational knowledge within the team, and ensuring that project control and procurement processes are implemented in a reliable and consistent manner. Through a structured working approach, you will help safeguard the stability of ongoing activities while supporting project teams in managing changing priorities.

Your Mission

In this role, you will support project control activities related to the creation, monitoring, and control of cost-at-completion figures and project cost plans. You will maintain and update project data within IPCDB and related corporate systems, ensuring accuracy, internal consistency, and full traceability of financial information. You will contribute to multi-year planning exercises, interim and financial closures by collecting, verifying, validating, and correcting data in close coordination with Project Controllers. You will also support programme and project contingency planning activities and provide tailored or ad-hoc analysis and reporting to support both project teams and management decision-making.
You will be responsible for the end-to-end implementation of procurement and financial objects in ESA-p, including Shopping Carts, Purchase Orders, Work Orders, Contracts, Contract Change Notices, and Goods Receipt Notes. This includes verifying the completeness, coherence, and correctness of technical and financial documentation prior to implementation, following approval workflows, and addressing inconsistencies or incomplete inputs through direct interaction with Technical Officers, Project Controllers, Finance, and Controlling functions. Where required, you will implement contracts in ESA-p based on agreed Milestone Payment Plans and Advance Payment tables, maintain payment milestone estimating dates in IPCDB and SAP, and implement approved accruals in close coordination with Project Controllers.
Operating in a multi-interface environment, you will interact effectively with stakeholders who have different expectations, priorities, and levels of urgency. You will manage parallel requests by applying sound judgement and structured prioritisation, always maintaining awareness of project constraints and organisational dependencies. Through a dependable and methodical working approach, you will support the continuity and consistency of project control activities across projects and over time.

What You Bring

You hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field, and a Master’s degree in Business, Management, Engineering, or IT is considered an asset. You bring significant experience in project control or financial control roles within structured, project-oriented organisations and have a solid understanding of procurement and financial implementation processes, including experience working in SAP-based environments. You are able to work autonomously while handling ambiguity and competing priorities, demonstrating professional maturity, reliability, and sound judgement. You communicate clearly and effectively, are highly organised, and pay close attention to detail. You are comfortable working in diverse and multinational environments and are proficient in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of another EU language is an advantage and EU nationality is required.
