As a Junior Biodiversity Officer, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and managing biodiversity sites across Melbourne’s parks and gardens. In this hands-on outdoor role, you will contribute to ecological restoration and conservation efforts, ensuring these spaces thrive for residents and visitors alike. This position requires a passion for native plants and ecosystems, along with the physical ability to perform daily fieldwork in varying weather conditions.
As a Junior Biodiversity Officer in the Parks and Gardens team, you’ll make a positive impact by:
- Maintaining biodiversity sites through herbicide application, hand weeding, brush-cutting, and woody weed removal
- Identifying native and weed species to support ecological restoration projects
- Promoting ecosystem longevity through habitat creation and regeneration processes
- Managing vehicles and equipment, ensuring they meet safety and maintenance standards
- Liaising with stakeholders and assisting with the procurement and delivery of supplies

To be successful in this role you’ll have:
- Minimum AQF 5 (Diploma) Qualifications in Conservation and Land Management, Environmental Science, Horticulture or similar
- Chem Cert (Desirable)
- Current Driver’s Licence
- Working with Childrens Check (Or Willingness to obtain)
- Knowledge of native and indigenous plants, as well as weed species
- Demonstrated experience in conservation, land management, or similar roles
- Understanding of ecological restoration principles and techniques
- Practical experience with brush-cutters, augers, and pesticide application
