The knowledge and judgement of an experienced Principal Warfare Officer is developed over many years at sea. This role gives you the opportunity to continue contributing to Navy by passing that experience on to the next generation of Surface Warfare Officers, while enjoying the stability of a shore-based career.
As a Principal Warfare Officer Instructor, you'll use your operational experience to deliver advanced warfare training to Royal Australian Navy officers, helping develop the tactical thinking, decision-making and professional standards required to fight and lead at sea.
Working alongside an experienced instructional team at HMAS Stirling, you'll deliver classroom and simulator-based training, mentor future warfare leaders and contribute to the ongoing development of Navy's warfare training capability.
As a Principal Warfare Officer Instructor, you’ll make a positive impact by:
- Deliver advanced Surface Warfare Officer and Warfare Mastery training.
- Mentor and assess Warfare Officers throughout their professional development.
- Deliver training across combat system simulators and classroom environments.
- Facilitate tactical discussions, mission planning and post-exercise debriefs.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of Navy’s Warfare Mastery Continuum.
- Maintain contemporary knowledge of Navy tactics, techniques and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with Navy and Serco stakeholders to maintain high training standards.
- Participate in rostered training activities where required.
Serco is a place for you

- At least 24 months' operational experience following qualification in a Principal Warfare Officer or equivalent warfare appointment.
- Recent operational experience in a surface warfare environment.
- Strong communication, coaching and mentoring skills.
