Junior Software Engineer

We are hiring a Junior Software Engineer  to join our team in developing AI-driven solutions for disaster management. In this role, you will build machine learning models to detect, monitor, and assess natural disasters—such as floods, wildfires, landslides, and storm damage—using satellite and Earth observation (EO) data. In order to answer to our current customers, we are looking for a candidate fluent in Italian and English. 

Skills and attributes:

• ML Model Development: Design, train, and deploy computer vision and machine learning models (e.g., semantic segmentation, change detection, temporal analysis) tailored to disaster response and risk mitigation.
• Earth Observation & Mission Integration: Process, calibrate, and fuse data from current and upcoming EO missions across optical, SAR, and thermal sensors (e.g., Sentinel, Landsat, NISAR, SWOT, high-resolution commercial constellations).
• Image Quality & Preprocessing: Conduct rigorous image quality assessment, radiometric and atmospheric correction, geometric registration, and artifact reduction to ensure robust model inputs.
• Pipeline Optimization: Build automated data ingestion and processing pipelines using cloud-based geospatial platforms and modern AI frameworks.

Knowledge and experience: 

• Degree in Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
• Strong background in machine learning and deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) applied to spatial and temporal Earth observation data.
• Technical expertise in image processing, quality control, and geospatial analysis libraries (e.g., GDAL, Rasterio, xarray, QGIS).
• Deep understanding of current EO satellite missions, sensor characteristics, and upcoming satellite programs.
• Proficiency in Python and experience working with cloud environments (e.g., Google Earth Engine).
