We are seeking an earth science engineer with a broad background to undertake a CCM Technology & Systems Evolution Support Specialist will support ESA in assessing, proposing, and guiding the evolution of technologies and systems used in the provision and management of Copernicus Contributing Mission (CCM) data. This role focuses on future-proofing mission operations, enabling seamless integration of new missions, enhancing constellation management, and contributing to standards development across the Copernicus ecosystem.
The key objective is to Support ESA in proposing and evaluating enhancements to technologies and systems used for providing and managing Copernicus Contributing Mission (CCM) data.
Key Responsibilities
Using diverse inputs from user feedback, technology trends and standards and guidelines the Evolution engineer will undertake the following activities :
- Support ESA in organizing workshops focused on CCM activity evolution.
- Conduct information-gathering exercises, including Requests for Information (RFI) campaigns.
- Provide expert recommendations on Virtual and Hybrid Constellation management.
- Recommend and support enhancements related to the Rapid Response Desk (RRD).
- Analyse and define requirements for integrating new missions, sensor types, and observation scenarios.
- Support standards development activities and contribute to OGC standards amendments.
- Gather and analyse feedback from the engineering team to assess potential evolutions to existing requirements.
- Collect and evaluate feedback from the Account Management team to identify user-driven requirement evolutions.
Allowing for the delivery of:
- Recommendations and technical papers on evolving technologies and optimal solutions for Virtual Constellations.
- Rapid Response Desk (RRD) evolution papers.
- Documentation supporting OGC standards and proposed amendments.
- Recommendations for new or updated requirements based on onboarding of new CCMs and feedback from engineering, operations, and users.
- Inputs to RFI campaigns.
- Technical Notes as required.
Skills
- Good experience handling and analysing Earth Observation (EO) data,
- Experience with data provision services,
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in scientific publication, reporting, and oral presentations.
- Good working proficiency in English.
- University degree (or equivalent) in physics, chemistry, engineering, or mathematics.
- Sound knowledge of EO data applications
- Sound knowledge of EO data provision platforms and technologies
- Sound knowledge of OGC and open standards
- Experience in analysing and evaluating solutions
- Experience in User interaction and information gathering campaigns
- Further academic studies in atmospheric sciences, remote sensing, physics, chemistry, or a related discipline
- Experience in virtual constellations
- Experience in running workshops and coordinating discussions
- Knowledge of the EU Copernicus Programme.
