Title: Business Administration Apprentice
Location: 31 Homer Road Solihull B91 3Q
Schedule: 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 09:00 – 17:00
Salary: £20,046.00 per annum plus benefits
Apprenticeship Qualification: L3 Business Admin
Here at Serco, we're looking for a detail-oriented and people-focused Business Administration Apprentice to join our MyHR Shared Services team — and we'll give you the structured support, mentoring, and a fully funded Business Administration apprenticeship to build your career from day one.
This is a genuinely great first step into a professional office environment. You don't need prior experience in pensions or HR — what matters is that you care about getting things right, you're comfortable with data, and you approach every conversation with professionalism and patience.
Day to day, you'll be processing pension and P11D data, preparing reports for external providers, and responding to queries from colleagues across the business. The work is varied, consequential, and sits at the heart of how Serco looks after its people.
Day to day you’ll be involved in:
- Providing first-line support for HR administrative queries via telephone, email and webchat, ensuring excellent customer service at all times.
- Acting as an initial triage point for HR requests, assessing queries and directing them to the appropriate team for resolution.
- Supporting employee lifecycle administration, including processing requests and preparing employee correspondence.
- Creating employment and financial references for employees and responding to related enquiries from employees and third parties.
- Assisting with absence management administration and providing support with system and navigational queries.
- Supporting GDPR and records management processes, ensuring information is handled accurately and confidentially.
- Processing administrative transactions such as pension enrolments, expense submissions and document uploads to employee personnel files.
- Maintaining accurate records on HR systems, tracking customer interactions and ensuring documents are stored correctly.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across HR Shared Services to meet service levels and support continuous improvement activities.
- Making outbound contact with employees and managers where required to support the resolution of queries and provide updates.
What you need to do the Apprenticeship?
Essential:
- A good level of digital and IT literacy — you're comfortable navigating systems and working with data.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing your own tasks while knowing when to ask for support.
- Willingness to learn and adapt — this is a role where doing things properly really matters.
- You'll need to be within commuting distance of Solihull, with at least one day per week in the office plus any apprenticeship attendance requirements.
- Use own initiative and work independently
- Demonstrate a flexible approach to work
- To meet the eligibility criteria for the apprenticeship, candidates must have been a UK resident for at least 3 years
No prior experience is required. A methodical mindset, a genuine willingness to learn, and a care for accuracy are what we're really looking for.
