As an Electrician in our Facilities Management team at HMP Thameside, you’ll play a vital role in keeping a secure environment safe, reliable and operational. Your work will directly support the smooth running of essential services that touch lives every day.
You’ll be part of a skilled on-site team responsible for maintaining and improving critical electrical systems. Working in a challenging but rewarding environment, your expertise will help create safe, compliant spaces that support colleagues, residents and the wider community.
What you’ll do as an Electrician
You’ll be entrusted to:
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on electrical plant and equipment up to 240V AC
- Fault find, diagnose and rectify electrical defects efficiently and safely
- Install new electrical plant and apparatus in line with specifications and regulations
- Read, interpret and work from technical drawings and wiring diagrams
- Maintain accurate documentation, records and reports to support compliance and performance
- Support and collaborate with other members of the maintenance team as required
Does this sound like you?
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:
- A City and Guilds Electricians Certificate in safe isolation and safe electrical working (or equivalent)
- Current qualifications to BS7671 (IEE Wiring Regulations)
- Strong working knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems and distribution networks
- The ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards
- A safety-first mindset and a proactive, team-focused approach
Vetting and checks:
This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, depending on the nature of the role, you may need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
