As an Electronics/Hardware Engineer in our Defence Technology Hub team, you’ll play a key role in delivering innovative hardware solutions across existing and new contracts, supporting projects that have a real impact on national capability and security.

From concept through to delivery and ongoing support, your expertise will help ensure systems perform reliably and effectively, making a positive impact on the people and communities our work touches.
What you’ll do as an Electronics/Hardware Engineer
You’ll be entrusted to:
- Analyse requirement specifications and translate them into robust hardware designs
- Develop architectural and detailed electronics designs using COTS and bespoke components
- Contribute to design reviews and ensure solutions meet technical and contractual standards
- Develop verification and acceptance test strategies, applying sound test and measurement principles
- Undertake integration, commissioning, testing and post design support activities, including obsolescence management
- Produce high-quality technical documentation, including plans, specifications and reports
Does this sound like you?
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:
- HND in Electronic and Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Experience across hardware design areas such as digital, analogue, PCB, RF, FPGA or EMC
- Strong understanding of full design lifecycle, including verification and documentation
- Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- A proactive mindset with a focus on problem solving, innovation and continuous improvement
Vetting and checks:
This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, depending on the nature of the role, you may need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Serco will initiate BPSS and SC checks on your behalf. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
