As a Systems Technician based at HMAS Watson, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and supporting advanced training systems for the Navy. Working closely with a collaborative team, you’ll ensure operational readiness by maintaining simulator systems, diagnosing technical faults, and contributing to compliance standards.
As a Systems Technician in the Defence team, you’ll make a positive impact by:
• Supporting the Bridge Simulator and other advanced training systems
• Carrying out preventative and corrective maintenance on training systems
• Updating Asset and Task management data on the Maintenance Management System
• Diagnosing faults in training systems, networks, and audiovisual equipment
• Reporting system availability to Training Staff and Technical Lead
• Ensuring network configuration control across all training systems
• Providing onsite support to other remote sites

To be successful in this role you’ll have:
• Degree or Diploma qualified in an IT discipline or Electrical Engineering background
• Previous work experience within a Defence environment is preferred however not essential
• Experience with Fault diagnosis of training systems, information systems, training networks and audio-visual equipment will be viewed favourably
• Flexible with availability with shifts covering 5am to midnight Monday to Friday.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to show initiative and work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Current and valid Driver’s Licence is Essential to meet the travel requirements of the role
• Applicants must be Australian Citizens and meet eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain appropriate Defence Security clearances.
• Strong problem-solving skills, along with an ability to work autonomously as well as working as a team.
Experience with the following is essential:
5 Years experience in:
• PC hardware maintenance
• MS Windows desktop administration
• Networking basics – configuration and diagnosis
Experience with the following will be highly desirable:
• A recognised qualification in IT System Administration
• CCNA or similar
• Real-time simulation training systems
• System Backups and Restoration
• MS Server Administration
• MS Windows security configuration
• Ubuntu Desktop Administration
• Networking - Switching and Routing
• Active Directory - Domain Configuration Basics
• Cabling Management
• VMWare Basics – Configuration and Management
• Hyper-V Basics - Configuration and Management
• BIOS Modification
