We're looking for a passionate and committed individual to take the lead on Equalities, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI), and to champion Decency across our establishment.

This is a pivotal leadership role, shaping the day-to-day culture of the prison and ensuring every resident is treated with dignity - regardless of background, identity, or circumstance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the EDI agenda across the prison, embedding inclusion in all aspects of prison life.
  • Ensure compliance with Equalities legislation, policy, and national standards.
  • Lead on the Discrimination Incident Reporting (DIRF) process and quality assurance.
  • Support and coordinate forums for protected characteristics and liaise with forum leads.
  • Provide induction and ongoing EDI training for both staff and residents.
  • Contribute to Equalities performance meetings locally and nationally (including DEAT and Serco forums).
  • Analyse EDI data, report trends, and implement improvements.

Decency

  • Ensure living and working conditions meet decency standards across all units.
  • Promote positive prisoner behaviour and clean, safe communal environments.
  • Support meaningful staff-prisoner relationships and pro-social interactions.
  • Oversee cleanliness, repair standards, access to resources, and prisoner labour job roles.
  • Collaborate with facilities and operational teams to uphold core decency expectations.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience delivering Equality, Diversity & Inclusion initiatives in a complex setting.
  • Strong leadership and people management experience.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Experience working in custodial or secure environments is highly desirable.
