Do you have an Education qualification and a commitment to making a difference? At Serco, we’re looking for Industries Tutors to join our team at HMP Fosse Way.

This is a brand-new resettlement prison, offering support and training for those preparing for release and successful reintegration into society, with meaningful and paid employment.

As a Tutor, you’ll develop, administer and deliver all aspects of your specialist subject in line with the core curriculum and awarding body specification(s). Due to the opening of a new House Block, we’re looking for Tutors in a range of specialisms, including, but not limited to, functional skills, maintenance, horticulture, cleaning, textiles, creative crafts and hospitality. If you have teaching skills in a specialist area not mentioned above, that you feel would be beneficial to prison leavers, please do apply.

What you’ll do

  • Design and deliver educational programmes that align with course aims, reviewing and improving content for quality.
  • Plan engaging lessons using high-quality materials and resources to optimise learning.
  • Manage all aspects of learner accreditation.
  • Keep accurate records of attendance, progress, achievements, and provide performance reports as needed.
  • Build positive, professional relationships with learners to foster a productive learning environment.
  • Deliver lessons (2 hours 45 minutes) in both AM and PM sessions, as required.
  • Create and maintain effective Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), set goals, and provide regular, constructive feedback.
  • Provide lesson cover when colleagues are absent, to meet contractual needs.
  • Manage equipment and materials within budget, encouraging learners to respect and value resources.
  • Continuously evaluate your teaching and gather learner feedback to improve programme quality.
  • Ensure timely certification for all course participants.
  • Actively promote programmes and ensure up-to-date, relevant promotional materials are available.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments and attend team meetings to support and enhance delivery.
  • Adhere to all statutory, Home Office, company, and departmental policies — including promptly reporting security or intelligence concerns.
  • Develop connections with related disciplines and maintain partnerships to enrich programme delivery.
  • Help maintain learner behaviour standards, applying appropriate disciplinary actions when needed.
  • Support security procedures by carrying out rub-down searches of prisoners when required.

What you’ll need

Qualifications:

  • A minimum Level 3 award in Education and Training (QCF), or equivalent
  • A minimum Level 3 qualification in your subject area

We’d love it if you already hold a Level 3 qualification in Training, Assessing and Quality Assurance (TAQA), but if not, that’s something we’ll support you to achieve!

Experience:

  • Experience in roles requiring strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to meet deadlines under pressure
  • Recent and relevant teaching experience in your subject area

We’re looking for people with a passion for their subject area, who can build good relationships with both colleagues and learners, and are keen to continue growing in their own area of expertise too! Experience in a custodial environment is a plus but not essential.
