As a PAT Tester at RNAS Yeovilton, you’ll help ensure electrical equipment remains safe, compliant, and ready to support critical Royal Navy operations. Your work will directly contribute to operational readiness, safety, and the effective delivery of essential support services across RNAS Yeovilton and associated sites.
From engineering workshops and operational facilities to offices and accommodation blocks, your expertise will help create a safer environment for colleagues and customers alike. By maintaining high standards of compliance and supporting continuous improvement, you’ll play an important role in delivering services that have a positive impact and support a trusted future for Defence operations.
What you’ll do as a PAT Tester
- Carry out formal visual inspections and Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) of electrical equipment across designated operational, engineering, office, and accommodation environments.
- Maintain accurate asset registers, testing records, certification documentation, and audit evidence.
- Identify defective or unsafe equipment and ensure appropriate quarantine, reporting, disposal, or repair actions are taken.
- Undertake authorised minor repairs to portable appliances, plugs, cables, and electrical connections where competent to do so.
- Coordinate testing schedules with customer units and support the management of PAT booking requests.
- Support audits, assurance activities, compliance inspections, and safety reporting processes while maintaining high standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
Does this sound like you?
- Hold a recognised PAT Testing qualification, such as City and Guilds 2377 or equivalent.
- Have experience carrying out PAT inspections and testing within a regulated engineering, defence, aviation, or industrial environment.
- Understand electrical safety legislation, safe systems of work, and risk assessment processes.
- Can maintain accurate electronic records and confidently use computer-based asset management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Have strong communication skills and can build trusted relationships with customers, colleagues, and stakeholders while delivering work to agreed timescales.

Vetting and checks:
This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, you will need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
